Superset workouts are some of my most cherished and favorite workouts to do. Not only are they challenging but they give you the best pump of all. Sadly, not a lot of people do them. I see a lot of people at the gym who are doing the same old “1 set and rest for 2 to 5 minutes” routine. Depending on what you want to achieve, this is ok but if you are like me and want to get ripped, muscular, powerful and athletic, in my opinion, this is not the way to go.
One of my greatest strategies when it comes to getting into great shape is superset weight training. The basic concept of superset workouts is to do multiple exercises without taking a break. You can do multiple exercises for a particular body part or you can do multiple exercises for a variety of body parts.
Let me give you a few examples. First, if you want to get a massive pump in your biceps, try this. Pick up a pair of dumbbells that you can do 10 to 12 reps with and perform the set. Once your done, immediately start another set with dumbbells that are 2.5 to 5 pounds lighter and do as many reps as you can. Repeat this as many times as you can by constantly droping the weight 2.5 to 5 pounds once you have reach failure on a particular set. Set a goal such as moving down the entire rack of dumbbells from where you started with. When you reach the end of the rack, take a 90 second break and repeat. Repeat this superset workout 2 to 4 times and your biceps are going to be absolutely jacked!
Another example is moving between body parts. Try this next time you are in the gym. Start by doing as many reps as you can doing pullups. Once you have reached failure, immediately move over to dips. Once you reach failure on dips, jump right back to the pull up bar and do chin ups to failure. Once you reach failure, finish off the superset with another set of dips to failure. This is equivalent to one superset. Take a 90 second break and repeat the superset. Try and do 5 supersets.
Those are just two examples of the many hundreds of thousands of combinations of superset workouts you can do. They not only build muslce but they also get you that lean, cut look. Another added bonus is that they dramatically increases your muscular endurance witch is key the next time you are on the sports field!
Next time you are in the gym, break the norm and give a superset workout a try! You will be glad you did! Until next time, keep it classy planet earth and make it a great day!
